2007 Individual XC Rankings
By SteveU

The annual Foot Locker Favorites series are national and regional rankings of cross-country runners based on distance-running accomplishments to date, with an emphasis on XC and 3200/2M track results, rather than a projection of how the Foot Locker Finals will turn out (predictions run later in the season). While the rankings are named as such in acknowledgement of the Foot Locker Finals as the historic individual championship, they are intended more as national and regional individual rankings per se, since some top runners will choose to participate only in NTN Regional and National Events.

Thanks to Rob Monroe for research assistance on this year's rankings.

1. Jordan Hasay, 2009
Mission Prep HS, CA

1st 10th / 1st
8th / 1st Jordan was, well, Jordan-esque at Mt. SAC, with a superior 16:42 to win by 23 seconds. Her state series races so far have backed up her fitness. Still the one to beat.

2. Ashley Brasovan, 2009
Wellington HS, FL

3rdDNQ / 19thDNQ / 11thAt this point, Ashley has to be given nothing less than the spot right behind Jordan. Since Great American, she's eased through Fla's post-season with state this weekend.

3. Carly Seymour, 2008
Central Cambria HS, PA

5th
9th / 3rd
7th / 3rd
Carly has to be considered the best in the NE after her course record 17:49 triumph at PA State. Her momentum has not stopped since her Eastern States victory.

4. Neely Spence, 2008
Shippensburg HS, PA

2nd8th / 1st
6th / 1st
Her victory at the AAA PA State wasn't as impressive as Seymour's in AA, but last weekend she confirmed she's ready to try and defend her FL NE title with 17:19 in NYRRC race at Vanny.

5. Katie Flood, 2010
Dowling Catholic HS, IA

6th
DNQ / DNC
DNQ / DNC
Katie ran eye-popping 13:27 at 4A state in Iowa, then hit the Heartland NTN Regional last week with decisive 17:35 victory. She's going for NTN/Foot Locker double.

6. Christine Babcock, 2008
Woodbridge HS, CA

5th DNQ / DNC
DNQ / DNC
A few more weeks until we'll know if Christine will run Foot Lockers. After Southern Section prelim win, has SS finals and then we'll see how she compares to Jordan at state.

7. Kathy Kroeger, 2009
Independence HS, TN

7th
1st / 2nd
1st / 2nd
Kathy romped to a big state win in TN, but her time was a minute off last year's. That was about her mid-point between Great American test and FL South. Will she close the gap to Brasovan?

8. Georgia Griffin, 2008
Hanover HS, NH

9th
DNQ / 26th
DNQ / 14th
Griffin's last three victories, in NH Class, NH MOC, and New Englands, far exceeded what she did last year. She'll run NTN NE, though, rather than clash against PA stars in FL NE.

9. Claire Durkin, 2008
Worthington Kilbourne HS, OH

20th
DNQ / DNC
DNQ / DNC
After running the best time of 17:11 at the Ohio State meet, 17 and 20 seconds ahead of stars Morgan and Infeld (in other races), Claire can no longer be denied top ten spot.

10. Kauren Tarver, 2008
Serrano HS, CA

---
7th / 8th
5th / 5th
It's becoming an annual pattern: Kauren runs average (for her) times until the end of the season, then rises to top group in November. 17:25 (2nd overall) at SS prelims proves she's back in form.

11. Nadya Bishton, 2008
Mountain Ridge HS, AZ

12th
16th / 4th
11th / 3rd
With Stanford win having boosted her profile, Nadya has stayed unbeaten, again nipping her sis at AZ state, but more importantly topping rival Jessica Tonn by 30+ seconds.

12. Nastia Bishton, 2008
Mountain Ridge HS, AZ

---
DNQ / 25th
DNQ / 13th
Nastia has been right on her sister's heels in all of the important races this fall, taking 2nd by just 2 seconds at Stanford and AZ State. She should join Nadya in San Diego this time.

13. Emily Sisson, 2010
Millard North HS, NE

8th
3rd / 1st
3rd / 1st
Though she didn't blast out right with her like at Griak, Emily still was beaten by Katie Flood by 30+ seconds at NTN Heartland. But last year, she didn't really step up huge til Foot Locker MW

14. Emilie Amaro, 2008
Cypress Bay HS, FL

13th
13th / 3rd
9th / 3rd Emilie will try again to close the gap on Brasovan this weekend at state while getting ready for Foot Lockers. Since Great American, she won districts, then lost to Ashley at region.

15. Cory McGee, 2010
Pass Christian HS, MS

15th
15th / 5th
10th / 4th
Other than a loss to Katlyn Will when she was sick, Cory went through MS season untested. She didn't run Great American this year, so she hasn't raced out of state.

16. Emily Infeld, 2008
Cleve. Hts. Beaumont HS, OH

16th
20th / 3rd
14th / 3rd
When she toes the line in Kenosha, Emily will have not had a test all year. She won D2 state in Ohio by 42 seconds with other big guns in D1 and D3.

17. Emily Reese, 2008
Chamblee HS, GA

17th
DNQ / 71st
DNQ / 42nd
Emily hasn't been pushed since Great American. Last weekend, she won 3A state in Georgia in 17:56, winning by more than a minute and best of the day by 29 seconds.

18. Keely Maguire
, 2008
Triton Regional HS, MA

---
DNQ / 22nd
DNQ / 11th
A fast triumph at the Brown Invite, beating Bromfield MA star Emily Jones, moved Keely into the national elite. She'll face Jones again this weekend at the MA State Finals.

19. Alex Banfich, 2008
Culver Academy, IN

18th
17th / 10th
12th / 4th
With her third straight triumph at IN State, Banfich cemented her place in Hoosier history. She will get pre-FL MW challenge this weekend vs. Durkin at Mideast MOC.

20. Aurora Scott, 2008
Homeschooled, Chesapeake VA

10th
2nd / 1st
2nd / 1st
Aurora hasn't competed since September and there's no indication that she's ready to go for the title again like she was at this time last year.
Honorable Mention - Kaitie Vanatta CO, Shelby Greany NY, Emily Jones MA, Emily Lipari NY, Nicole Benson IL, Jessica Tonn AZ, Hannah Davidson NY, Kayla Hale FL, Kathleen McCafferty NJ, Melanie Thompson NJ, Kacey Gibson PA, Jeanne Mack RI, Chelsea Ley NJ, Stephanie Morgan OH, Caitlin Comfort IL, Maria Cali LA, Sam Roecker NY, Leah Francis AK, Alexa Rogers CO, Madeline Morgan AL, Katie Dunn CA, Laurynne Chetelat CA, Lauren Smith TX, Rachel Velarde NM, Andrea Nelson WA, Kinsey Gomez ID, Nicole Nielsen ID, Ashlie Decker IA, Kat Lautzenheiser VA, Laura Hughes MN

Comments

1. Chris Derrick, 2008
Neuqua Valley HS, IL

4th DNQ / 18th
DNQ / 5th
A time considered to equal or beat Craig Virgin's historic old course mark at IL state, then a sub-15 CR at NTN MW has pushed Derrick to the top. He could be the first to win NTN and Foot Locker Finals.

2. Colby Lowe, 2008
Southlake Carroll HS, TX

2nd10th / 7th
2nd / 4th
Lowe has been unfortunate in not getting competition beyond his own team all year. It looks like he's going for the NTN-Foot Locker double again this year and won't have to go all out at FL South.

3. Luke Puskedra, 2008
Judge Memorial HS, UT

3rd DNQ / DNC DNQ / DNCWith one of the earliest state meets (he won easily) in the country, Puskedra is using NTN SW to run as individual and start his 2nd season. Racing BenJo and Walmsley, it's a good test for FL West.

4. German Fernandez, 2008, Riverbank HS, CA

9th
DNQ / DNC DNQ / DNC German's 14:42 victory at Stanford Invite has been backed up by his other section races as he's torn up California this fall. He deserves a big boost from the #9 last time.

5. Ben Johnson, 2008
Albuquerque Academy HS, NM

1st
6th / 2nd(NTN)
1st / X With his state meet win in NM, BenJo stayed unbeaten, but the super times of others knocked him off #1. He'll face Puskedra and Walmsley at NTN SW, though, with a chance to move up.

6. Sean Keveren, 2008
Brentwood HS, TN

5th
DNQ / 20th DNQ / 10thKeveren won his biggest race, Great American, and took his TN state meet with day's best time, but there's still some question if he can race with the best. We'll see Nov. 24.

7. Donn Cabral, 2008
Glastonbury HS, CT

7th
21st / 6th
5th / 2nd
While Cabral hasn't opened eyes with super fast times or beating any studs, he is unbeaten with a very nice New Englands win. His team is an unconfirmed entry (as of 11/15) at NTN NE.

8. Sintayehu Taye, 2008
Cushing Academy, MA

8th
16th / 2nd 4th / 1st
A crushing CR 15:15 triumph in the NEPSTA D2 champs in MA (New England prep schools) last weekend shows Taye is back to Foot Locker form. He'll get to Balboa, but will he finally run well there?

9. Kevin Williams, 2008
D'Evelyn HS, CO

11th
DNQ / 37th
DNQ / 9th
Williams wasn't challenged much in staying unbeaten and taking his state title in CO with best time of the day. CO standouts almost always do well at FL Midwest.

10. Rob Finnerty, 2008
Burnsville HS, MN

10th
DNQ / 16th
DNQ / 4th Since big Griak win, Finnerty has rolled through the rest of his schedule and should make it to San Diego easily. His times were more impressive early-season, so he needs to crank it up.

11. Brian Leung, 2008
W. Windsor-Plainsboro South HS, NJ

---
DNQ / 38th
DNQ / 11th
Many thought Leung would be one of Jersey's best this year, but not necessarily Smith/Jarrett good. But the 12:17 at Manhattan showed the world, then had the best NJ Groups time last weekend. Faces Smith in NJ MOC this weekend.

12. Mike Fout, 2008
LaPorte HS, IN

12th
DNQ / DNC
DNQ / DNC
Won by big margin at IN State with solid 15:31 in tough conditions. Will battle MI and OH stars at Mideast MOC Saturday before preparing for FL MW.

13. Doug Smith, 2009
Gill St. Bernards HS, NJ

13th
DNQ / 72nd
DNQ / 27th Though he won the hyped showdown in the Manny 'A' race (Jarrett DNF), Leung had the best time of the day. They will clash at the NJ MOC this weekend.

14. Jason Witt, 2008
Midlothian HS, VA

20th
DNQ / 15th
DNQ / 8th
After his 2nd to Dorrell at Maymont, he reclaimed the title of VA's best (at least for now) when he had the best time of the day at VA state. Midlo is not entered in NTN SE yet, so he may opt for Foot Lockers.

15. Brandon Jarrett, 2008
St. Benedict's Acad., NJ

6th
12th / 8th 3rd / 3rd
Jarrett had to drop out of the hyped 'A' race vs. Doug Smith at Manhattan because of injury, but has come back with 2 solid, but unspectacular wins to prepare for FL NE.

16. Ryan Hill, 2008
HIckory HS, NC

16th
26th / 1st
7th / 1st The defending FL South champ, Hill made it clear who was the best in North Carolina with his 17-second win at State. He needs to up it another notch, though, to repeat at McAlpine.

17. Peter Dorrell, 2008
Blacksburg HS, VA

14th
DNQ / 17thDNQ / 9th Dorrell was 2nd only to Brian Leung in both his race and at Manhattan overall. He took the VA 2A race with a time six ticks off Jason Witt's 3A winner.

18. Jim Walmsley, 2008
Horizon HS, AZ

---
DNQ / 36th
DNQ / 11th
Walmsley made a statement by winning the Super Sweepstakes race at Mt. SAC in 14:57 (2.91 M), then backed it up with dominant state meet win. Will run NTN SW, then FL West.

19. Maverick Darling, 2008
Ovid-Elsie HS, MI

---
DNQ / 20th
DNQ / 6th
Running in Michigan's D3 and not outside the state, Darling has been untested. But his 14:52 at state ranks only behind Ritz and Jason Hartmann in course history.

20. Kevin Havel, 2008
Arlington Hersey HS, IL

---
DNQ / 23rd
DNQ / 7th
After taking 2nd at NTN Midwest and beating rival Tom Achtien, Havel is back on the Midwest radar and, if he runs well at FL MW, should finally get that trip to San Diego.
Honorable Mention - Vince McNally PA, Griff Graves VA, Tom Achtien IL, Evan Appel CO, Luke Lovelace SC, Matt Kane CT, Mark Dennin PA, Robert Gibson MA, Max Kaulbach PA, Matt Sonnenfeldt TN, Pat DuPont NY, Kyle Merber NY, Thomas Porter VA, Willie Ahearn CT, Patrick McGregor AL, Donny Roys OH, Charles White CO, Nick Holmes IL, Riley Sullivan CA, Joe Franklin FL, Alex McGrath NH, Taylor Gilland NC, Miles Unterrainer WA, Jeremy Acosta CA, Trevor Dunbar AK, Aaron Hamilton AR, Rory Tunningley TX, Bryan Tibaduiza NV, Mac Fleet CA, Joash Osoro ND
