Kasen Covington 49-3

Omar Craddock (Milburn Academy, Killeen, Tx.), took the lead in the first round with a 48-1 ½ effort and improved to 48-5 ¾ in the second round but exited the competition in the fourth round with an injury. At that time Arnaux Brewer (James Logan, Union City, Ca,) had just taken over second at 48-2 ¼ and Kasen Covington (YMCA Team Idaho/Capital, Boise, Id.), who jumped 47-10 in the second round, was in third. Covington moved to first in the final round with a 49-3. Brewer answered with a 48-2 ½ but it still left him in third. Johnny Carter (Team Raw Track/Ridgeview, Bakersfield, Ca.) moved from fifth to fourth with a 47-9 effort in the final round.
 Ciarra Brewer 41-6

Sophomore Ciarra Brewer (James Logan, Union City, Ca.) fouled her first jump but then stretched out to 41-6 in the second round to break the national freshman class record of 41-1 ½, set by Ke’Niya Richardson (Holy Names, Oakland, Ca.) in  2005, and also moved to No. 1 on the yearly list. Brewer also had jumps of 40-0 ½, 40-6 ½ and another 40-6 ½. Andrea Geubelle (Flying AJ’s/Curtis, Tacoma, Wa.) led after the first round at 39-4 and improved to a personal best, indoor or outdoors, of 40-5 in the second round to move to second on the yearly list. Lauren McGlory (James Logan,  Union City, Ca.) was third with a first-round throw of 38-5 ¾ and Karynn Dunn (Socal. Prelims

Boys

Twelve jumpers bettered 42-0 to advance to the final. Omar Craddock (Team Corps/Milburn Academy, Killeen, Tx.) has a best of 50-11 and there are four other jumpers—Johnny Carter (Team Raw/Ridgeview, Bakersfield, Ca.), Kasen Covington (YMCA Team Idaho/Capital, Boise, Id.), Chad Jones (James Logan. Union City, Ca.) and  Arnaux Brewer (James Logan, Union City, Ca.)—with bests over 47-5.

Girls

Eighteen jumpers bettered 34-6, led by sophomore Ciarra Brewer (James Logan, Union City, Ca.), who jumped 41-8 ¼ last year and has already been out to 40-11 ½  outdoors this year. The national indoor sophomore class record of 41-1 ½ almost surely will be under assault. Among those who advanced are eight other jump who have bettered 38-0. Andrea Geubelle (Flying AJ’s/Curtis, Tacoma, Wa.), Karynn Dunn (Socal. Cheetahs/Diamond Ranch, Pomona, Ca.), Savannah Johnson (Flying AJ’s/Tahoma, Maple Valley, Wa.) and the McGlory twins Lauren and Nicole (James Logan, Union City, Ca.) have bettered 38-6.
