Simplot Fast Times Continue Amid Hard Times - In a positive sign for the sport, nation's economic woes seem to have little effect on athlete turnout at Simplot Games; Meet made popular by Obea Moore in the 1990s could benefit from dejavu-like experience this weekend as New Bern NC relays seek to eclipse Moore-anchored records. Rich Gonzalez reports
Friday - Ashton Purvis - New Bern NC boys - CO hurdlers - Gardena CA girls Ashton Purvis CA blazes to fastest qualifying time in 60m (7.52) and 200m (24.08), while New Bern NC boys have to regain their mojo after a rough morning outing. Video: Even the Best Have Problems - Track Eastern Carolina (New Bern NC), national record setter this year in the 4x400, slipped and stumbled through their 4x200 heat and nearly missed the fast section of the finals, but they came back with a swift heat in the 1600 Sprint Medley. | Ashton Purvis photo by John Dye | Kyle Macintosh photo by Robert Rosenberg |

Simplot set to sizzle again - For an indoor track meet tucked away in the Northwest part of the country, well outside a major metropolitan area, the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho, has an uncanny ability to draw national-level talent and generate national record performances. While there is always the possibility of a surprise, a breakout performance or a sudden star emerging with an all-time mark, 2009 offers at least two tangible—and tantalizing—possibilities for US records. Preview by Dave Devine. Video Preview - by Doug Speck. Analysis - each event by Mike Kennedy. Heats - meet program.
Simplot is noted for national records
The noisy old banked board track at Holt Arena is still fast. There has been a national record in each of the last 2 years at Simplot -- Jackie Coward TN 8.16 60H in 2008 and Bianca Knight MS 22.97 200m in 2007. These two and two more from 2004 -- Elzie Coleman NY 45.92 400m and Ashley Owens 7.19 60m -- still stand. | 2008 - Jackie Coward
