Boys by SteveU -- A stirring battle on the final 800 leg found Rancho Verde CA finally edging Colonie NY, US#1 3:26.60 to #2 3:26.79. Ruben Danielsen anchored for the winners in 1:52.1, following Bakari Fant (50.0), Paul Robertson, and Greg Hornsby. Colony’s Nick Santos was even faster, 1:51.7 on the anchor, and he was joined by Tyler Stewart (50.3), Steve Crouse, and James Kehrer.
Girls by Dave Devine -- In the longer medley race, the girls of Long Beach Wilson CA nailed a US#1 mark with an 800-meter anchor by Christina Smith that shut the door on their 4:00.97 effort. Smith was all alone down the homestretch as she battled for a meet record and a sub-4 clocking, but she came up just shy of both
Men’s 1600 Medley Relay
–Another super exciting contest had the nation’s #1 and 2 times of the year, with Rancho Verde’s
super soph “Ruben Danielson anchoring at 1:52.1 to help his team win over Colonie, New York
3:26.60-3:26.79. Santos anchored Colonie at 1:51.7, with Steve Norton anchoring La Sierra to a 3:30.53
in third (#5 US time of year) with his 1:52.9 800.
Women’s 1600 Medley
–Long Beach Wilson came loaded for bear, and raced away with 25.2-24.5 legs, then Angele Cooper
blazed a 55.0 third leg and Christina Smith raced a fine 2:16.2 for the #1 clocking of the year in the country
with a 4:00.97 win.
