NXN 2008
44 teams and 90 individuals will compete for national titles -- 2 teams and five individuals per gender from the regions and 4 at large teams.

In its fifth year, the meet changes its name from Nike Team Nationals to Nike Cross Nationals to reflect the addition of an individual championship. There are two regional boundary changes: Missouri moves from Heartland to Midwest and Wisconsin moves from Midwest to Heartland.

The Teams - all 44 teams with their regional and national rankings. Entries include 37 of the 50 teams in Marc Bloom's latest  Super 25 national rankings.

Selection Sunday

The boys field gets two from the NE and two from California.  Girls get two from the South and two from New York.  Now it's on to Portland for finals December 6!

  • Nov. 29 regionals:
  • New York - a stepping stone for US#1 Fayetteville-Manlius girls en route to possible 3-peat in Portland.  NY#1 Shenendehowa boys overcome fall by #2 runner
  • Northeast - Intrastate battles of Massachusetts girls and New Jersey boys live up to the hype. Lincoln-Sudbury MA girls edge Newton South and West Windsor North NJ boys edge Don Bosco.  .
  • Southeast - Regional #1 teams win.  Tatnall DE girls beat Collins Hill GA to earn 3rd straight trip to Portland.  Jamestown VA boys beat Broughton Raleigh NC. 
Open Race - Kenyans are coming again

The rankers knew what they were doing.
Thirty two teams were auto qualifiers for national finals by virtue of finishing 1st or 2nd in the eight regional meets held between Nov. 15 and 29.  All but five of the 32 were ranked 1st or 2nd in their region by Marc Bloom and Rich Gonzalez in the latest regional team rankings before their regional.  Hawk boys (Alta UT) were the lowest ranked team to auto qualify, being ranked 4th in the Southwest before the regional.  Four other auto qualifiers were ranked 3rd in their region.
