Boys - Joe Canavan of Palm Desert (Ca.), with a personal best 62-5, upset national leader Colin Boevers (Judge Memorial, Salt Lake City, Utah), but it was not easy. Wes Wright of Throw 1 Far (Villa Rica, Ga.) led after the first round with his 61-1 with Boevers second at 59-10 ½ and Canavan third at 59-2. The positions did not change until the sixth round when, Canavan, throwing third from last, hit his winning throw of 62-5.. That effort moved Canavan into No. 4 on the yearly national list. His previous best was 61-9 ¼ outdoors in 2006. Boevers was very consistent with his three legal puts of 59-10½, 59-11½ and 59-11 ½. Aaron Best of Hurricane (Utah) was fourth in 55-0 ½ and Bryce Hall of Davis (Kaysville, Utah) at 55-0. Wright’s put moved him to No. 5 on the yearly list. Girls - Kamorean Hayes of Higher Power (Harding, Charlotte, N.C.) had a best of 49-4 ¾ in the fifth round to take over the national lead. She also had puts of 47-10, 48-9, 47-8, 47-2 ¾ and 47-6. Lauren Chambers of Throw 1 Deep (Kell, Marietta, Ga.) improved her indoor best by three feet with a 45-3 ½ effort to finish second and Juliana Smith of Throw 1 Deep (Berkmar, Lilburn, Ga.) was third with personal best of 43-4. Chambers mark ranks her equal 5th on the yearly national list. |

Prelims Notes by Mike Kennedy Boys - Twenty-four putters have bettered 45-0 to advance. National indoor leader Colin Boevers of Father Judge Memorial (Salt Lake City, Utah), at 63-9, is the heavy favorite. Joe Canavan of Palm Desert (Ca.) was third in the State meet at 61-9. Wes Wright of Villa Rica (Ga.), the winner of the Weight Throw, has thrown 56-3 ¾ indoors this season.
Girls - Twenty-one putters have bettered 32-0 to advance. National leader Kamorean Hayes of Higher Power
(Harding, Charlotte, N.C.) at 49-2 ¼ is the solid favorite. Last year she had an outdoor best of 52-2.
Lauren Chambers and Juliana Smith, both of Throw 1 Deep (Georgia) are the nest best throwers at 45-2 and
45-0. respectively.
