Highlights - from Dave Devine, NW Regional Editor

Boys
  • Bozeman senior Alex Brekke, sidelined for nearly the entire season with a stress fracture, raced for the first time since the second meet of the season and took the AA title with a stunning 15:58 return to the course. He ran down Flathead star Seth Svennungsen (2nd - 16:00) in the closing stages of the race and then passed out at the finish line.
  • Missoula Hellgate, impressive all fall, took down close rivals Flathead, 77-86, for the AA team title. Bozeman, fronted by Brekke's gutsy effort, finished third with 107 points.
  • Laurel senior stud Patrick Casey made up for a disappointing finish at last year's state meet with a 15:38 Class A win that capped a perfect 11-for-11 undeafeated season and ranked as the fastest time of the day.
  • Browning High, behind the 9th place finish of Dylan Desrosier (16:57) edged out Hamilton for the boys A team trophy, 76-84.
  • In Class B, Thompson Falls, riding the 2-3 finish of Shane Donaldson (16:44) and Jacob Naegeli (16:50), took the team championship with a 65-78 margin over Poplar. Darby's Paul Abrahamsen took the individual win in 16:34.
  • Ryan Ketterling of Joliet grabbed the Class C boys title in 16:09, while Winnett's low of 26 knocked off Ketterling's Joliet squad by 7 points.

Girls
  • Heavily favored in the AA race, NW#2 Bozeman showed why with a dominant victory that featured all 5 scorers in the top 10, 6 in the top 13, and 7 in the top 20. The 35 points they racked up was 4 points shy of the all-time state AA record for low score, held by Flathead. Last year's AA champs and NTN finalists, Billings Senior, was second this year.
  • Super frosh Heidi Turner made it a Bozeman sweep of the AA individual titles, matching Alex Brekke's boys' victory with a 17:47 tour of the windy course that left second placer Keely West (CMR) well back in 18:13.
  • Whitefish High's Loni Hanson kept up the trend of individual winners leading team titlists with her 19:28 Class A victory over Mesa Starkey (Polson - 19:33), which fronted her Whitefish team to a low 50 points, far ahead of runner-up Hamilton (146 points).
  • The Class B team matchup was close, as Glasgow held off Red Lodge, 56-62, despite the strong frontrunning of Red Lodge's Cortney Lynde, individual winner in 19:27.
  • Shannon Young of Harrison took the Class C title over Belt High's Mariah Gondiero, 20:00 to 20:25, but Gondiero's Belt squad turned the tables in the team scoring, turning back Harrison 13 to 23.
