  • Class 4A II- SW #6 Rio Rico (46  pts) over Catalina (65 pts); Flagstaff (74 pts) over Page (82 pts)
  • Class 4A I- Catalina Foothills (59pts) over Cactus Shadows (85 pts); Sandra Day O'Connor (66 pts) over Saguaro (77 pts)
  • Class 3A- Tuba City (68 pts) over Chinle (90 pts); Chinle (50 pts) over Tuba City (71 pts)

Lead Highlights
  • All four sub-16:00 boys performances came in the ultra-competitive 4A-II race, where Sinagua junior Brian Shrader powered home in 15:16, five seconds up on Mingus Union sr Tim Freriks.  Queen Creek jr Sherod Hardt was 3rd in 15:39, followed by the Ron Rico duo of jr Jose Luis Munoz (15:51) and sr Omar Hernandez (16:02)
  • SW#6 Ron Rico put five in the top 20 to score 46, 19 up on Catalina, with Mingus Union 1 more point back.  Ron Rico's avg. time, 16:19.21, was the best of the day.
  • A very competitive 5A-1 race saw Alhambra soph Jorge Martinez (16:04) edge Dobson sr Carlos Martinez (16:06) and Desert Vista jr Andrew Kellogg (16:06).  Desert Vista nipped Alhambra for the team title, 96-98.
  • As expected, Xavier Prep jr Jessica Tonn was fastest of the day, winning 5A-I in 17:51, with a 1:07 margin over teammate Sarah PenneySW#6 Xavier Prep edged Mtn View Mesa, 87-95, for the team title, and had the best team avg. of the day at 19:51.18.
  • In the combined scoring, though, Sandra Day O'Connor was the best, even though they averaged 20:18.61.  They won 4A-1 with 66 points, 11 better than Saguaro.
  • The second best girls time of the day came from 3A, where Chinle freshman Rolonda Jumbo ripped an 18:15.  The Blue Ridge duo of sr Jessica Rydberg (18:57) and sr Emerald Raney (19:43).  Chinle won with 50 points, ahead of Tuba City (71) and Blue Ridge (79).
  • Another ranked winner was SW#10 Ironwood Ridge, which claimed 5A-II with 38 points, 22 ahead of Pinnacle.
