- US#34/HL#1 Dowling Catholic IA girls got the usual 1-2 punch from nationally-ranked stars and seniors Katie Flood (18:06.6) and Ashlie Decker (18:06.8) en route to the Gold Race victory with 106 points in the 36-team field. MW#3 Lee's Summit West MO, led by 3rd-place junior Chelsey Phoebus, gained 23 points back on Dowling in the final two runners, but wound up six points short at 112. HL#2 Iowa City High IA was 3rd at 190. Dowling Catholic was HL#1 coming in last year, but was upset by Sioux Falls Roosevelt SD - which in turn is #8 this year and placed 6th
- US#27/HL#3 Wayzata MN boys avenged their loss here last year to US#24/HL#2 Bismarck ND, scoring 138 to Bismarck's 198 in the field of 48 teams - including 7 of the Heartland top 10. Wayzata, led by 16th place Landon Lozano, had an 18-second 1-5 spread and put six ahead of Bismarck's 3rd. HL bubble team Brandon Valley SD was 3rd at 247, followed by #7 Marquette University WI, #5 Iowa City High, #6 Edina MN, #8 Pleasant Valley IA, and #10 Iowa City West.
- Marquette University HS sr Jake Erschen was the only runner to break 16:00, going 15:57.01 for the win. Moorhead jr Lukas Gemar, arguably the pre-race fave, led at 3k but wound up 11th
