MW#7 Bowling Green wins Avon Lake Earlybird

Beaumont's Emily Infeld 18:12, BG's Christy Titus 18:37 finish 1-2

9/2/06 Lorain County Community College OH

The Bowling Green High School girls cross country team defeated four
teams that finished in the top 12 in last year's Ohio state championship
and avenged one of the two blemishes on their 2005 resume in the Avon
Lake Earlybird Invitational at Lorain County Community College on
Saturday.

The Bobcats totaled 73 points to win the 19-team meet. Magnificat,
which finished sixth in last year's state meet, was second on Saturday
with 88 points. Massillon Jackson was third with 100. Jackson beat the
Bobcats in last year's Avon Lake meet and finished second in the state
meet.

Brecksville and St. Joseph's, two other top 12 teams from last year's
state meet, completed the top five at Avon Lake.

Christy Titus led the Bobcat effort with a season-best time of 18:37.
She finished second behind Emily Infeld of Beaumont who won in 18:12.
BG's Barbara Powers finished fifth in 19:14. Completing BG's top five
were Alyssa Glenn, 14th in 20:12; Shannon Titus, 22nd in 20:23; and
Andrea Renny, 30th in 20:45.

Bowling Green ran without their regular #5 runner Anne-Marie Simon due
to illness.

The meet was the varsity debut of freshman Kelly Titus who joined her
two older sisters in the line-up. She was BG's sixth finisher, placing
50th in 21:17.

"Christy and Barbara did their usual great job up front," said Coach
Brian Tucker. "What really pleased me was the way the others stepped
up. Alyssa bounced back from a tough second mile to finish strong;
Shannon had her best race of the season; Andrea ran her best ever for
us; and Kelly did a nice job in her first varsity start."
