Madison La Follette boys forge huge margin in D1

Boys Highlights
  • Madison La Follette completely dominated D1 with by far the best performance of the day, scoring 44 to runner-up Stevens Point's 139. Marquette U. HS was 3rd with 157, followed by Waukesha West 163.
  • Seniors Andy Buchanan (16:01) and John Prusynski (16:08) went 1-3 (team scoring, 3-7 overall) to pace the win, and La Follette put its first 5 in the top 18 team placers, including Hayden Lamb (10th 16:33), Alex Brill (12th 16:37) and Garrett Eklof (18th 16:43). Only 3 other teams had their #2 man in before La Follette's top 7 and no team had their 3rd in at that point.  It was their 2nd straight team title.
  • Appleton North sr Elliott Krause won the D1 race in 15:37, the best time of the day. Tomah jr Derek Storkel was next in 15:54, followed by Buchanan, Watertown sr Andrew Perkins (top returnee from last year), and Milwaukee King sr Joe Stilin.
  • The D2 race saw Port Washington put 4 in the top 8 (smaller field by 37 runners) and win with 36, beating runner-up Shorewood by 31. Senior Jack Hackett, and juniors Evan Ross and Mark Allen finished within 6 seconds of each other at 2-3-4 (team scoring). Shorewood soph Kevin McCollow, 7th as a freshman last year behind 6 seniors, was the individual champ in 16:22, followed by Hackett.
  • In D3, Aquinas topped Webster, 78-115, for the crown. Grantsburg sr Sean Kutz ran to a 4-second win in 16:18.
Girls Highlights
  • Arrowhead 92, Whitefish Bay 95, and Bay Port 103 waged a great 3-way battle for first in D1. Arrowhead gained 9 key points on Whitefish Bay with its #4, then sealed its margin over Bay Port with its #5. Gabby Levac led the winners with her 5th-place finish.
  • The top individual overall in D1 was Kimbery sr Kelly Bogard, who won her 2nd crown in 3 years in 14:41, 5 ticks up on Germantown sr Kate Lydy.
  • It was New Glarus/Monticello sr Ashley Buetler, however, who had the best time of the day.  She won her 2nd straight D2 title with 14:11 for 4k, winning by 24 seconds over Berlin sr Claire Rindo (14:35).
  • In the D2 team race, Lakeside Lutheran used a tight pack of its 2-3-4 runners (18-19-21, within 3 seconds) and a 34-second 1-5 spread overall for a 104-114 margin over Wisconsin Lutheran.
  • Boscobel's 5th girl was 22 places better than anyone else's 5th as they won the D3 team battle with 92, a margin of 20 over runner-up Cedar Grove-Belgium.
  • Pardeeville jr Samantha Bluske edged Pecatonica jr Elise Sigg in the indivdual battle, 15:15-15:16.
