The Cedar Park Invite drew a deep boys field and the results went according to form. SO#3/US#25 A&M Consolidated, led by individual champ sr Duncan Phillips in 15:35, edged host SO#7 Cedar Park 55-59. A newcomer for A&M was sr Jorell Laube, a move-in Ohio 1600 state finalist, whose paperwork was finally in order, allowing him to finish as the #4 man today. Cedar Park produced a 48 second spread for 2nd. SO#8 Georgetown followed up its strong Texas A&M showing last week with 71 points for team bronze, with sr Josh Litos nabbing 2nd overall in 15:42. SO#10 Mayde Creek was 4th with 88 as some injuries kept them at less than full strength.

struck gold at the Humble Invite with 46 points, placing 5 in the top 15 with a 16:42 average. Upstart College Park, a 2nd year school which split up the attendance zone of long-time powerhouse The Woodlands, nipped previously ranked Cinco Ranch 85-86. The College Park squad, with 1 junior and 4 sophs, was led by soph Cody Foster’s 16:15 in 3rd. Cinco Ranch got a winning 15:50 effort from jr Zac Flowers.

SO#6 Vista Ridge TX

took the team title at the Ricardo Romo UTSA Invite. This meet, previously known simply as the Univ. of Texas-San Antonio Invite, was re-named in honor of the 1st sub-4:00 miler from Texas. Vista Ridge sr Travis Fort captured individual honors in 15:11. Del Rio TX ran well for team silver with 111 followed by Lockhart TX with 138.
Vista Ridge Coach David Hilsenteger said, "We returned everyone since we did not have a graduating class last year (school opened 2 years ago). Travis Fort was the 2005 4A state champion and Javier Perez was 3rd. Chase Kaufman, a transfer from Gresham, Oregon who qualified for state in the 1500 and 3000 last spring, helps make our team very strong."

was the class of the field at the Simmons Food XC Classic hosted by Siloam Springs. Rogers went 2-3-4 and took 7 of the top 16 spots on its way to 30 points. Van Buren AR was next with 75. Bentonville sr Justin Ferriel was the overall champ in 15:50.8.

  • At the Lake Highlands Invite, 2 previously ranked teams were evenly matched with Flower Mound TX winning the tie-breaker over Plano West TX 65-65. Host Lake Highlands TX scored 102 for the bronze with McKinney North TX next with 106 points. Coppell sr Taylor Ray broke the tape in 16:03.
  • Ft Worth North Side TX captured the Jennifer Tyde Invite with 91, ahead of Greenhill TX’s 119.
    Moore OK averaged 17:21 while claiming team gold at the OBU Invite, 59-67 over Mustang OK. Mustang was without 2-time defending state champ sr Kevin Schwab.
  • Strake Jesuit TX was an easy winner at the Spring Branch Invite with 29 points. Memorial TX was next with 50.
    Jesuit LA tallied 43 while cruising to victory at the LSU Invite. Vandebilt Catholic sr Alex Breaux was the individual champ in 16:52
  • Pearl MS finished 19th and Madison Central MS 22nd in the Great American seeded race.
  • Bryant AR won the U of Arkansas-Little Rock Invite with 39 (2-6-8-11-12-14-15), averaging 18:11. Cabot sr Nathan Johnson sped a quick 15:47 5K.
  • Jenks OK scored 47 and averaged 17:34 in winning the Holland Hall Invite over Bishop Kelley OK with 57. Broken Arrow jr Ryan Farrar led the field in 16:44.

SO#8 The Woodlands TX

The two teams met at the Humble Invite. Kingwood continued its winning ways, tallying 47 and averaging 11:47 for the 3200 course. The Woodlands, still hampered by injuries, held down 2nd with 89. Brazoswood soph Lauren Smith confirmed her surprising silver medal effort at Texas A&M last week with an 11:02 winner. Cy Creek sr Allison Pye was next best in 11:10.
The Woodlands Coach Noel Hanson remarked, "I am encouraged that we had 14 girls set season best marks today."

A 20:19 average and fine 58 second spread against this large elite field resulted in 168 points. Tupelo soph Maggie McFerrin led the team in 20:05 for 27th overall while sr Claire Corban, the defending state champ, has still not seen action this season.

won the Friona Trails with 23 points, snaring 5 of the top 7 places with a 29 second spread for 2 miles. Coach Ray Baca commented earlier, "They had a very good summer of training. If we stay healthy, and continue to improve, this team will be significantly better (than last year’s 4A state champs and South #6).

Coach Renee Saettel says, "We have a very strong 9th grade class. The kids are working hard. We are trying to take things one meet at a time. We are hopeful that the kids will continue to improve and we are looking forward to the rest of our season."

  • Plano West TX took the Lake Highlands Invite with 39 points, followed by Ursuline Academy TX with 50. Richardson TX sr Jillian Rosen won the individual crown in 14:18 for 4K, well ahead of Ursuline’s Becky Wade in 15:12.
  • Previously ranked Barbe LA scored 27 for the James Davis Invite title at its season-opener on Wednesday. Barbe sr Amy Guinn led her team to a 1-2-3-4 finish in 11:58. Coach Steve Richard stated, "We lost 3 very good girls from last year’s team. Finding someone that can compete on their level has been a challenge." Barbe came back on Saturday to win the Sargent Memorial Invite.
  • Bishop McGuinness OK chalked up a perfect 15 at the OBU Invite, jr Molly Ferguson showing the way in 12:15.
  • Westmoore OK won a tight 108-112 battle over Edmond North OK at the Edmond Dog Pack Run. Norman OK was 3rd with 145 followed by Edmond Memorial’s 149. Westmoore soph Katelin Cherry crossed the line 1st in 11:47.57.
  • Madison Central MS was 11th in the Great American Red race.
  • Bartlesville OK swept the crowns at the Holland Hall Invite, nabbing team gold 54-59 over Jenks OK, while sr Bailey Holden broke the tape in 12:11.
