SO#1/US#12 Southlake Carroll TX

hosted the inaugural Carroll Invitational. Plano West TX took team honors with 75 points, leaving 2 South ranked teams in its wake. Southlake Carroll captured silver with 83, without the services of their strong usual #3. SO#6 Ft Worth North Side TX was next with 108. Southlake Carroll jr Colby Lowe, the #8 National Foot Locker returnee, cruised home in 15:31 for the individual title. Soph teammate CJ Brown grabbed the runner-up spot in 16:03 followed by Ft Worth North Side sr Jose Balleza in 16:23. Southlake Carroll coach Robert Ondrasek said, “Colby’s time is very good on that course, which is demanding with some hills, lots of turns in and out of the woods, and running through creeks. We’re looking forward to next week (Texas A&M) where we get to see some of the Houston-area teams.”

SO#2/US#19 A&M Consolidated TX and SO#3/US#21 The Woodlands TX

tangled at the Montgomery Invite. The Woodlands prevailed 26-43, placing 5 in the top 9. A&M Consolidated sr Duncan Phillips, the defending state champ, followed the pace of Woodlands sr Alex Neff (5:01 1st mile) on this demanding course before hammering the final 800 meters. His winning time was 15:09, while Neff held on for 2nd in 15:17. The Woodlands coach Dan Green commented, “We were without 3 of our top 7, but for the second week in a row our depth prevailed. Next week is the Texas A&M Invite where we’ll see, among others, Southlake Carroll, A&M Consolidated, and Kingwood. We’ll have to have a great effort to win that one.”

got its 1st win of the young season at the Rice Invite with 42 points, ahead of College Park’s 62. Cinco Ranch jr Zac Flowers and sr Kyle Goldsmith led the pack, finishing 1-2 in 10:05 and 10:11 for 3200 meters.

kicked off its season in grand style, topping the 18-team field at the Chickasaw Trails meet in Alabama. Tupelo sr Drew Kellum led the charge, breaking the tape in 16:33, with jr Rob Ellis just a tick behind in 16:34. With 5 in the top 7, and a 40 second 1-5 spread, Tupelo scored just 20. Scottsboro AL was the “best of the rest”, taking 2nd with 71.

  • Catholic High LA dominated the Morvant Invite, finishing 2-3-4-6-8-9-10 for a total of 23. Vandebilt Catholic jr Alex Breaux led the field, running 14:57 for the muddy 2.75 course.
  • Corpus Christi Carroll TX was victorius at the Texas State Invite, scoring 35. Round Rock TX took silver with 51. Round Rock jr Carl Stones broke the tape in 15:34 for the 3-mile course.
  • Bryant AR won the team title at the Bob Gravette Invite 82-87 over Catholic High School AR.
  • SA Reagan TX won a squeaker 87-88 over Lee at the San Antonio Northeast Invite. Lee jr Masahiro Yokota struck individual gold in 16:16, ahead of Judson sr Richard Small in 16:20.
  • Slidell LA captured the team trophy at the Southern Mississippi Invite with 60 points. Pearl MS edged Madison Central MS 95-98 for 2nd. Clinton MS sr Allen Gearhart won individual honors in 16:43.55 for 5K.
  • Edmond North OK bested the schools at the East Central University Invite with 38. Shawnee OK was next with 43, led by individual winner Andrew Brown in 17:16 for 5000m.

took the runner-spot at its own invite as Keller had a 20:09 5-girl average while posting the winning score of 68. Southlake Carroll, resting their usual #3 and #4 girls this week, averaged 20:04 while scoring 71. Plano West captured bronze with 86. SO#10 Marcus TX was well back in 11th.

had little trouble at the Deer Park Invite, scoring 22 with 6 in the top 8 spots. Host Deer Park grabbed the silver with 71. Clear Lake soph Jule Blanco led the charge, recording 12:16 for the win. According to Coach James Menze, “We had a 12 second spread from #1-6. Our normal 3rd/4th girl was sick and stopped at 2k. Another top returnee is coming along nicely from an injury. By October, she should be fit.”

Tupelo soph Maggie McFerrin led the squad with a 7th place finish in 19:34, with her teammates garnering 4 of the next 5 places. Tupelo sr Claire Corban, the defending state champ, is nursing an injury and did not run. Ironically, Scottsboro’s top runner, Caitlin Chitwood, also did not run. She was the Alabama state champion last year.

  • SA Reagan TX scored 19 to turn back the field at the San Antonio Northeast Invite. Reagan’s Vanessa Schroeder struck gold in 11:43 ahead of teammate Kara Fujimoto in 11:50.
  • Archbishop Blenk LA struck team gold at the Morvant Invite behind the 1-2 finish of Heather Fitzhenry in 19:07 and Brando Blanchard in 19:32 for 2.75 miles.
  • Pearl MS took team honors at the Southern Mississippi Invite, 81-89 over St Andrews Episcopal MS. Pass Christian freshman Cory McGee built a huge margin on the way to an impressive win, clocking 10:47 for 2 miles. She was 7th at Foot Locker South last year, but ineligible for Nationals since she was only in 8th grade at the time.
  • Edmond North OK won the East Central University Invite with 27 points, head of Edmond Memorial’s 36.
  • Bryant AR edged Cabot 50-56 at the Bob Gravette Invite, overcoming a 1-2-3 finish by Cabot.
  • PSJA North TX took the Texas State Invite with 48, well ahead of Round Rock TX’s 91. PSJA Memorial’s Gabriela Salazar ran 11:27 for the individual title.
