This first-year event is being hosted by meet director Steve Bedsole and the same local management team that hosted Great American XC Festival during its 2006-08 run here, as well as the NXN SE Regional in 2007, and that plans to hold the USATF Junior Olympic XC meet in 2010.  It will be contested on the same course at Veterans Park in Hoover AL that has hosted and will host the above-mentioned meets.

Ninety-three teams and 1,163 athletes from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee will participate in the event.

On the boys side, the field is led by SE#1 Brookwood GA, coming off a huge victory in this year’s Great American race in North Carolina.  SE bubble teams Hoover AL and Trinity KY are probably the most likely challengers.  Houston and Ensworth, though, are two of the top teams in Tennessee that could challenge.

Individually, Trinity KY jr Jake Wildenmann will be one of the favorites after his 15:34.89 for 7th at the loaded Trinity/Valkyrie Invite KY.  Brookwood #1 man Tommy George is another top contender after his 15:43 at Great American, as is Hoover sr David Hudman.

For the girls, the competition could be a little more wide-open.  Individually, it could be another victory for McGill-Toolen AL frosh Carmen Carlos, who was the Gold Division champ at the Jesse Owens Invite last weekend by 28 seconds in 18:04.  The Owens meet runner-up, John Carroll Catholic AL soph Rachel Roberts, is also in the field.
