Monster quadruple for James Taylor!
Nansemond River star wins 55/300/500/LJ; Tynita Butts 20-00.50 to complete great jumps double;
Shakeela Saunders US frosh record 39.08 300 behind Wesh, great distance runs by Peavey, Porter, and Kostelac - FRIDAY: Huge wins for Albemarle boys 4x8 (7:44.70), Wilson, Richardson

Team Champs:
  • Class AAA - Albemarle boys 66 over Western Branch 61; Bethel girls 43 over Landstown 37
  • Class AA -  Louisa County boys 83 over Jamestown 57; Blacksburg girls 97 over Courtland 42.50

Day 2 AAA Highlights
  • Nansemond River sr James Taylor had a magnificent quadruple, winning the 55 (US#3 6.26), 300 (34.07), 500 (1:05.14) and long jump (24-01.25).  Only the 500 (Albemarle sr Zach Vrhovac 2nd 1:05.23) was seriously close.
  • T.C. Williams sr Tynita Butts completed a HJ/LJ double and leapt back up to #1 with a US-leader-tying 20-00.50 in the LJ, winning by more than a foot over Grassfield jr Jazmen Townsend (18-10.25), while US#1 Karimah Shepherd was 7th and US#2 Tiffany Harris 6th.
  • Landstown sr Marlena Wesh came back from a girls 55 loss to win the 300 in a US#2 38.86, topping the US freshman record 39.08 of Great Bridge's Shakeela Saunders 39.08
  • Foot Locker 3rd-place finisher and Mtn View sr Thomas Porter rolled to a US#4 9:09.01 in the 3200, where VA athletes now hold 3 of the top 4 spots, and 5 of 10.  Atlee sr Ben Dejarnette was 2nd in 9:13.86
  • Western Branch sr Jeff Artis took the 55H in 7.33, after winning his prelim the night before in US#4 7.32
  • Kellam sr Bobby Peavey ripped a meet record US#5 4:09.31 in the 1600, with Albemarle sr Anthony Kostelac also under the old mark with US#7 4:10.73.  Kostelac later came back and won the 1k in 2:30.51
  • Oscar Smith soph Keilah Tyson upset the favorites in the girls 55, running 7.01, ahead of prelims winner Nansemond River sr TaNay Chandler (7.03), Saunders (7.04) and state leader Wesh (7.10)
  • US leader and James Robinson freshman Genamarie McCant topped a deep field (6 under 1:17) in the girls 500 with 1:15.15
  • Midlothian sr Paige Johnston swept the girls 1k and 1600 in 2:55.38 and 5:00.50.  The 1k had six under 2:58
  • Bethel girls won the 4x200 (1:42.52), but were suprised in the 4x400 by Booker T. Washington, 3:56.61 to 3:56.75, with James Robinson 3rd at 3:56.77
  • Landstown sr Taylor Wheaton won a tight girls 55H in 8.12
  • Mountain View jr Kaitlyn Davis took the girls 3200 in 11:01.32
  • Atlee sr Emma Dejarnette won another PV title with 12-00
  • Ocean Lakes jr Justin Hunter took the HJ in 6-07
  • Woodbridge soph Isaiah Simmons won the SP in 56-10.75

Day 1 AAA Highlights
  • Albemarle boys blaze to US#1 7:44.70 4x800, #5 all-time
  • George Washington sr David Wilson picks up first 50-foot TJ of the year with US#1 50-01
  • J.R. Tucker sr Jasia Richardson surprises the other 40-footers with one of her won in the triple jump, as her 40-02.25 beats Grassfield sr Karimah Shepherd (40-00) and Great Bridge frosh Shakeela Saunders (39-02.50).
  • T.C. Williams sr Tynita Butts ties the meet record at =US#2 5-09, beatign Potomac sr Pearl Bickersteth (also 5-09) on misses.
  • Ocean Lakes girls top Lake Braddock in girls 4x800, 9:21.00 to 9:21.92
  • Kings Fork sr Allen Kelly 15-03 tops Deep Run sr Matthew Armentrout 15-00 in boys PV
  • Nansemond Rivers sr TaNay Chandler runs a big 7.01 to lead favorites Marlena Wesh and Shakeela Saunders in 55 dash qualifying
  • Boys 55 dash qualifying sees Nansemond River sr James Taylor 6.33 and Bethel sr Earl House 6.34 on top, while Western Branch sr Jeffrey Artis (7.33) paces 55H qualifying.

AA Highlights
  • Western Albemarle sr Tyler Stutzman swept the 1600 (4:16.49, over Jamestown jr Colin Mearns 4:22.58) and 1k (2:30.12, over Blacksburg sr Brian Hencke 2:30.60)
  • Blacksburg jr Joanna Stevens took the 1600 in 4:58.28, as Blacksburg went 1-2-3-5, and was 2nd in the 1k to sister Kathleen (below)
  • Blacksburg jr Kathleen Stevens took the 1k in 2:57.56 over twin sister Joanna (2:58.83) as Blackburg went 1-2-5
  • Christiansburg's Travis Hudson won the HJ in 6-07
  • Liberty's Kenara Hurt took the girls 300 in 40.61, 2nd in the 55 in 7.30
  • Western Albemarle sr Kyle Satterwhite took the 3200 in 9:24.42
  • Blacksburg's Hannah Brown won the girls 500 by nearly 2 seconds in 1:17.68
  • Blacksburg jr Allison Homer led a 1-2 in the 3200 for her team with a 11:20.32 and was 2nd in the 1600
  • Blacksburg swept the 4x800s, with the boys running a meet record 8:00.76 (Western Albemarle 8:02.71) and the girls 9:34.53
  • William Byrd sr Drew Hall won the boys 500 in 1:06.22
  • Louisa County swept the boys and girls 4x200
  • Lafayette sr D'Angelo Scales won the boys 55H in 7.58
  • Fluvanna's Jamal Spears won boys 55 in 6.47
