Team Champs:
  • Class AAA - Wheeling Park boys 67 over Jefferson 71; University girls 81 over Hurricane 93
  • Class AA/A - Ravenswood boys 77 over Berkeley Springs 81; Shady Spring girls 61 over Wheeling Central Catholic 81
Class AAA Highlights
  • Morgantown soph Cody Pelliccione becomes only the second to break 16:00 on the state meet course, winning in 15:57, 13 seconds up on Jefferson sr Cory Hampshire.  They moved up from 5th and 11th last year.
  • Elkins soph Letitia Propst defended her 2007 crown, breaking her own prevous course record of 18:49 set at last year's state meet, running 18:29.  She came from a distant 3rd place at 2 miles, running 5:32 over her last mile to come from behind and win.  Wheeling Park sr Courtney Yaeger (18:31) and Preston sr Ari Kasprowicz (18:41) also under previous CR.
  • Wheeling Park won a tough battle for the boys title with Jefferson, 67-71, with the host school Cabell Midland 3rd with 93.  Wheeling Park, the defending champs, built a small margin with their 2nd and 3rd men, then clinched it on the #5.
  • The defending champ University girls trailed after two runners, but had the best 3-4-5 and won with 81 points, 12 up on HurricaneJefferson started with a leading 3-4-12, in team scoring, but wound up 5th.
Class AA-A Highlights
  • The Ravenswood boys won their 9th consecutive team title in a close victory over runner-up Berkeley Springs 77-81.  Berkeley Springs won every spot through the fourth man, but Ravenswood rallied and gained 19 points on the leaders with their final scorer.
  • Berkeley Springs sr Lenny Roach dominated with a 16:16, winning by 32 seconds.  He was the top returnee after 2-time champ Levi Grandt was graduated.
  • Shady Spring girls score 61 to win their first title by 20 (Wheeling Central Catholic 81) as they score strong up front with a 2-3 finish, and add strength with a winning 5th.
  • Junior Rebeka McBride of Frankfort wins in 19:32, moving up from 6th in 07 and past several other returnees.  She beat Shady Spring soph Desiree Roseberry by 11 seconds.
