NJ TOP 25 RANKINGS (week 5)

BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY TOP 25

Not much happened in the way of upsets this past week, so the Top 25 is nearly identical to the poll last week.
The one change occured in the #19 and #20 spots as Shawnee and Lenape flip-flopped positions. Shawnee finished second behind #13 Cherokee, one spot ahead of Lenape, at the Olympic Conference Championships to avenge its loss at the Burlington County Open.
CBA continues to hold down the top spot as it preares for a showdown with NJ#3 Toms River North at Saturday's Shore Conference Championships at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck.
There are a number of great county and conference showdowns this weekend before the teams march on toward November's state meets.
A great rematch is on tap for today between #9 Ridge and #12 Bridgewater-Raritan at the Skyland Conference Championships at Pleasant Valley Park in Bernards Township. Ridge beat Bridgewater-Raritan by six points last week to capture the Somerset County crown.
Also today, #5 West Windsor-Plainsboro North will put its Mercer County title on the line vs. #14 West Windsor South and #15 Hopewell Valley at Washington Crossing in Hopewell Township.
At tomorrow's Greater Middlesex Conference Championships, #7 Old Bridge will clash with #10 East Brunswick at Thompson Park in Jamesburg. The teams have split their two meetings this season.
#17 Randolph and #18 Mendham will collide at tomorow's Morris County Championships at the Kraft Foods Complex in East Hanover, and #8 Don Bosco Prep and #16 Ridgewood will meet again at the Bergen County Meet of Champions tomorrow at Darlington Park in Mahwah. Don Bosco won handily in their matchup last week at the Bergen County Group Championships.

NEW JERSEY GIRLS XC TOP 25

The latest DyeStat New Jersey girls cross-country Top 25 poll may need an overhaul shortly after it gets transferred from Word Document to cyberspace.

In the biggest meet of the year thus far, top-ranked Hillsborough, #2 Voorhees and #3 Hunterdon Central will battle it out at the Skyland Conference Championships, today at Pleasant Valley Park in Bernards Township. Also in the mix will be #8 Ridge, #12 North Hunterdon, #15 Bernards and #16 Pingry.

Now that’s a loaded field.

Last year Ridge beat Hillsborough and Voorhees for the conference title, but Voorhees went on to defeat Ridge by a single point, with Hillsborough finishing third, for its second straight NJSIAA Meet of Champions trophy.

On Saturday, Monmouth County champion and #4 Red Bank Catholic goes toe-to-toe with Ocean County champion and #6 Toms River North in the Shore Conference Championships, at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck. #11 Southern Regional, the Ocean County runner-up, and #19 Howell, the Monmouth County runner-up, will also be there.

The Bergen County Meet of Champions will pit #9 Holy Angels against #10 Immaculate Heart on Saturday at Darlington Park in Mahwah. Last week at the Bergen County group meet, also at Darlington, Holy Angels won its division with a 19:32.4 while Immaculate Heart won with a 19:43.6.

Also on Saturday, #5 Randolph will need to hold off #20 Roxbury and #22 Morris Knolls to claim its second straight title at the Morris County Championships, at the Kraft Foods Complex in East Hanover. Morris Knolls won in 2003 and Roxbury won the next four years before Randolph won last season.
