2008-2009 Indoor Season
1/16-19 Weekend Notables
  • Not to be outdone - The boys 60 was one of two events that was revised not just once, or twice, but three times during the weekend!  Friday night, Jeremy Rankin CO zipped a 6.79A at an all-comers meet at the Air Force Academy to lower his US-leading 6.81.  Saturday at the Carl Lewis Invite, Marquise Goodwin TX shaved .03 off that with his 6.76.  Not to be outdone, Rankin was a late entry into Sunday's Air Force Academy Invite, where he dropped the time to 6.69A in the prelims before false-starting the final.  Rankin was last year's leader at 6.64A
  • Short-lived leaders - The girls 3k had the other triple revision, all on Saturday.  In order: Malia Cali LA 9:59.07 at Carl Lewis Invite, Sam Roecker NY 9:51.18 at Yale Invite, Emily Lipari NY 9:50.21 at Molloy Stanner Games.
  • Triple threat - With his 600/1000 double at Molloy Stanner, Terrance Livingston NY now has a very impressive trio of #1s, spanning the 600-80-1000.
  • Distance domination - Lipari and Andrew Springer RI solidified their status as the most impressive distance runners this winter (despite long XC seasons).  Lipari now has the mile/1600, 3k, and 2M/3200, while Springer owns the mile/1600, 3k and a leg on the leading DMR.
  • Shot wars - Given the way the shot put has been, it wouldn't have been shocking to see the 69-07.75 by Stephen Saenz TX Saturday topped by Nick Vena NJ or Mason Finley CO in their meets Sunday.  But Saenz will be on top for at least a week as neither of the others went as far as 67 this time.
  • Virginians love the 500 - The 500 gets a lot of action in Virginia, so it's not a big surprise that the US leaders come from there.  On the girls side, the weekend saw both Natalie Woodford (1:15.49) and Amanda Smith (1:15.98) top Genamarie McCant (1:16.13), who had already revised her leading mark once earlier.  Taylor Sykes has led since early on for boys with his 1:05.42.
