4/13-20 Notables
  • Settling down a bit Not surprisingly, the week after Arcadia featured a downturn in new list leaders, with just 13 this week after 33 last week.  Look for that total to rise again with the Penn Relays this weekend
  • Dominant states The state of Oregon got its 3rd different national leader this spring for the girls 3k as Annamarie Maag brought the mark under 10:00.  It will be interesting to see how long this state can hold on to this as things heat up in New York.  Those are arguably the two most significant states that contest this event at the state level.  Likewise, California produced its 3rd national leader this spring in the boys 3200, with Erik Olson enjoying the honors
  • Distance kings and queens Dana Hills CA has a unique honor this week of holding the nation's leading mark in both the boys and girls version of the same relay event.  It's a good bet that no other school in the country will have that distinction this year.  Both marks will get a big test at Penn this week, but if they survive that, the school has a chance to hold the national lead until Nike Outdoor, when they can fight mano y mano to wind up topping the final list
  • Battle of the states At this points, which states have the most #1s?  California, overall, has 25, with Texas next with 15.  CA has a 12-11 edge for the boys over TX, but a big 13-4 advantage for the girls.  Typically, the rest of the country gains some ground back as the weather warms
  • Monday specials Results from Monday's weather-delayed meets in Colorado were added to this report, including Mason Finley's monster 223-04 DT!  He also added 71-03.25 SP, 2nd only to Hayden Baillio's 72-02.25, to become history's only 70/200 man.
